When the Body Speaks About Your Career: The Prohibition Against Pleasure and Professional Crisis
A professional crisis rarely begins suddenly. More often, it develops over years as we grow accustomed to living by “must,” ignoring our own desires, the need for rest, and the body’s signals. Fatigue, anxiety, procrastination, and loss of meaning are not just symptoms of stress. They are the language through which the body communicates an inner conflict between what you truly want and what your professional environment demands.
As part of my master’s thesis, I explored how the prohibition against bodily pleasure blocks career progression. Grounded in psychoanalytic theory, real coaching case studies, and survey data from over 250 professionals, the findings confirm: psychosomatic manifestations are not an interference, but precise diagnostic material. They reveal hidden barriers to professional self-determination and underlying resistance to change.
This work culminated in the practical coaching model Desire → Action. It provides a safe framework to explore bodily signals, ease internal pressure, and translate awareness into sustainable professional steps. More than an academic exercise, it is a roadmap for anyone ready to listen to their body and reclaim full authorship of their own career.
